What Are The Symptoms Of Painful Ovarian Cysts?

Are you suffering from lower abdominal pain, or have you noticed changes to your menstrual cycles? If so, then it is possible you are suffering from the very painful ovarian cyst problem. Cysts are sacs of fluid that can grow on many parts of the body, including the ovaries. They can vary in the thickness of the liquid they contain, from very watery to solids which would be classed as tumours.

So, how do these painful ovarian cysts come about? Eggs grow in a follicle in the ovaries and are released every month. However, in some instances the follicle does not properly release the egg or it does not shrink down after releasing it. When this happens, the liquid that is used to protect the egg continues to be moved into the follicle and it can therefore grow quite large.

In most cases these ovarian cysts will come and go and may not even be noticed. However, there can be complications which arise which results in painful ovarian cysts. For example, they can often continue to grow for a long period and become quite large. This puts pressure on other parts of the body such as the bladder and bowels which can mean more frequent visits to the toilet. They may also twist or become ruptured which can cause quite severe and sudden lower abdominal pain.

If you are suffering from painful ovarian cysts you may also notice changes to your menstrual cycle such as it coming at differing times than usual or being heavier or lighter than normal. If you suspect that you have any of these kind of symptoms then it is worthwhile to get looked over by your doctor as you would with any medical condition. If left untreated, then emergency surgery can often be required to remove the cysts altogether.
